Sunday, 26.05.2002: Tena - Otavalo

We left Tena at 8-30am. It was a long driving day to Otavalo (a colonial town famous for its food and craft market) via bad roads through mountain and volcano scenery. We were stopping at a thermal pool hotel for lunch where we could watch the formula 1 race in Monaco!!

Then we went over the equator at 4-30pm - a very unimpressive rock sphere of the world and a line that you could hardly see which the GPS proved was in the wrong place anyway!!! Grant didn´t even bother getting off the truck!

We got to Otavalo at 6pm. Anne-Marie, Chris & Pam had also come up to Otavalo for Prue´s birthday party. We decided to go for a Chinese meal and then joined the others decorating Prue´s room. She was out with the Bukima guide and was not expected to be back before midnight. But unfortunately she came back too early.

Monday, 27.05.2002: Tena - Otavalo

We got up at 9-30am and went to one of the markets to buy 4 hammocks, 2 painted ashtrays and two alpaca pullovers. There wasn´t much to do in Otavalo and we spent a relaxing afternoon in our hotel room.

Prue´s birthday party started off in Greg and Grant´s room. We were all dressed in bed sheets for the Toga party.

Famoo had joined us too. All the alcoholic left overs from both trucks were taken up to the room. Prue was dressed as the Emperor and each of the lads had to take it in turns to be her "slave"!! This is also Prue's last trip as she resigned in March. So it was quite a big party with lots of different games to be played and various truck antics going on!!
