Friday, 03.05.2002: Arequipa - Puerto Inca

We left Arequipa at 7-30am and drove back onto the Panamerican highway and north along the coast. We had a great lunch stop watching the high waves of the Pacific Ocean crashing against the rocks.

Pacific Ocean crashing against the rocks

Got to the beach of Puerto Inca at 3-30pm and enjoyed the nice sunny afternoon. People were either chilling out or playing football and volleyball. There was a small hotel with a swimming pool right next to our camping spot. We had a disco on that night and played table football.

Saturday, 04.05.2002: Puerto Inca (Pig Day!)

A whole pig had been put on the spit over the fire at 8-30am. People from both Kumuka trucks took it in turns to turn the pig for approximately 15 minutes each. Water was constantly sprayed with a water pistol on the meat so it didn´t get burned over the hot fire.

The day was spent with swimming in the ocean and preparing the huge dinner with loads of salads, dips and desert. The pig was finally ready by 7-30pm - it had taken 11 hours!!! Kev, Prue, Darrell and Laurie were chopping it all up - it was a bit chewy. Nearly all the dishes from both trucks were used so we had to do a massive washing up session afterwards. Was it worth all that effort???

But it was really nice sitting next to the fire and listening to the sounds of the waves in the dark.
